The ministry of Rural Development is engaged in implementing a number of schemes which aim at enabling rural people to improve the quality of their lives. The thrust of rural development programmes is on all-round economic and social transformation of rural areas, through a multi-pronged strategy, aimed at reaching out to the most disadvantaged sections of society.

UDMRD is committed to work in synergy with different Govt. agencies to bring the benefits of Govt. schemes to the poorest of poor. Our high-profile team of Directors has identified a few priority areas taht tower over other significant issues as regards rural development in India. These issues include:

Provision of clean drinking water to all villages

Houses to the rural homeless

Connecting all villages with roads

Providing basic sanitation and health facilities to villages of India

Rural Employment and income-generating activities

Improving women's status

Our mission is to improve rural lives in India. As a part of our mission we have identified the following two statements as our most significant motivation..

To examine and analyse key factors contributing to the improvement of economic and social well-being of people in rural India on a continuing basis with focus on the rural poor and the other disadvantaged groups through research, action and community efforts.

To initiate rural development efforts with specific prominence and focus on the poorest of the poor in rural areas by improving the knowledge, skills and outlooks of rural development officials and non-officials through organising training, workshops and seminars.
